We are going into the third and final weekend of FTSL. Touch opens the week after that. And The Frog Prince opens the week after that. I have been rehearsing these three plays simultaneously. That means that a.) I basically have no life outside of theatre, and b.) my dog hates me. The one show that I haven’t had time to talk about is The Frog Prince, my first outing with Scottish Rite Children’s Theatre:
Princess Abigail is simply a spoiled brat with no concern for anyone but herself. But with the help of a cunning frog with a very special secret, Abigail will learn how to be a true Princess! The Frog Prince features original songs and music, and a special guest star– Penelope the Party Pooper! This new musical adaptation of the classic Brother’s Grimm tale teaches the lesson of being true to your word. The interactive play is perfect for ages 3-9.
Written by D.H. Thompson. Directed and Music Directed by Michael McKelvey
This rehearsal process has possibly been the most fun that I’ve ever had. I was really intimidated to work with Michael, as his reputation precedes him everywhere (he just got his own special award at the Austin Critics Table Awards, but we hit it off right away. We all get along famously. This cast has tremendous chemistry. The biggest problem I’m having with this show is keeping a straight face while performing. I guarantee you, this is one show that will delight the parents as much as their children. Now if I can just not pee myself on stage from laughing, everything will be solid gold.
