Rubber Reperatory Workshop!

Still buzzing from this morning’s thrill and honor of being invited to participate in a weekly workshop with the talented guys at Rubber Rep.  When I first moved to Austin, the very first show I saw was At Home With Dick II.   In retrospect, it was a very appropriate introduction to Austin theatre.  Perhaps best represented when I saw B’s mother, who had accompanied us, in her pearls (after all we were going to the theater), sandwiched between two huge strangers on Dick’s lumpy couch. She was holding a Lone Star someone had passed her, still unopened, little tears in her eyes from the tender story-songs being performed three feet away.  That was the beginning of my admiration for the uncomfortable positions they require of their audiences and the consequent effects they provoke in people.  Sometimes they do in a subtle way, sometimes they do it with a thirteen foot dildo.  I have a feeling this workshop is going to seriously challenge my “comfort zone.” I cannot wait.
